Well see if the cold pill works for the whole hour. Well see how this works. Well, you look great and we missed you. Thank you, rachel. A new reporting tonight by the Washington Post says the president of the United States and the Saudi Arabian family are not searching for the truth of what happened to the Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. They are searching for mutually agreeable explanation, thats their phrase. And its not easy to find an explanation for why Jamal Khashoggi was seen entering the saudi consulate in istanbul and was never seen leaving that saudi consulate. In fact, its not easy to answer a single question about it if what youre really trying to do is get to an agreeable explanation. Did they say that mr. Khashoggi is alive or dead . I dont want to talk about any of the facts. They didnt want to either, and that they want to have the opportunity to complete this investigation in a thorough way. Did you talk about repercussions in case the saudis are involved .
A bunch of documents declassified. A rare event, especially considering they have to do with an active investigation into russia. All of it as the 11th hour gets under way on a monday night. As we start a new week, good evening once again from our nbc news headquarters here in new york. Day 606 of the Trump Administration. And it appears we are going to be covering yet another Brett Kavanaugh hearing next week, but its not the kind of hearing the Trump Administration was expecting or looking forward to. Brett kavanaughs path to the Supreme Court just got supremely complicated. Tonight the Senate Judiciary committee announced it will hold a public hearing next monday with kavanaugh and his accuser, dr. Christine blasey ford, a College Professor in california. Nbc news reports that kavanaugh spent roughly nine hours inside the white house today and that a white house official described him as, quote, champing at the bit to testify. In an on the record interview with the Washington Post f
Findings of the fbis reopened investigation into the president s pick for the high court. Most of the senators of both parties made up their minds on kavanaugh a long time ago, but these are the five critical ones. Three republicans, two dems, and what will their decision be and how will what they see affect that . Presumably, their vote will hinge on what they learn from the report. The probe wrapped up yesterday after agents interviewed some nine witnesses. Thats far fewer than democrats as well as kavanaughs accusers had wanted. It was hand delivered overnight to the Senate Judiciary committee with absolute secrecy is the rule. They were granted access to read tin brieft. The Senate Majority leader set a procedural vote on kavanaughs nomination tomorrow. Manu raju is getting as close to the process as he can. Democrats have been looking at it for the last hour. Have you had a chance to speak to any of them as they come out . We did get to approach dianne feinstein, the top democrat
No closer to calming the controversy on this Supreme Court nominee. Protesters gathering in the Nations Capital right now. With the fbi report done, the vote for kavanaughs nomination appears to be on track to happen this weekend. However, as to whether we are closer to knowing if the man who may be the next Supreme Court justice committed Sexual Assault as a teenager, the answer remains as mired in partisanship as ever. The fact is, these allegations have not been corroborated. None of these allegations have been corroborated in the seven investigations. Not in the new fbi investigation, not anywhere. The most notable part of this report is whats not in it. It looks to be the product of an incomplete investigation that was limited, perhaps by the white house, i dont know. Now all eyes are on these five possible swing votes and what they view the fbi found. Both republicans susan kcollins and jeff flake say the report looks, quote, thorough. Theres just a single copy of this fbi report
Hours with the special counsels office and other prosecutors. So this is previously unreported. Emily jane fox has this tonight at vanityfair. Com. This news is presumably causing a little agita in the white house tonight, but well get that full report coming up in a few minutes. Were going to start, though, in the great state of north dakota. North dakota is a really, really red state overall. In the 2008 president ial election, you will recall that barack obama absolutely shellacked john mccain, was not anywhere near close. Obama beat mccain easily and handily in that election, but in north dakota, obama lost. John mccain won there by eight points. Then four years later, 2012, barack obama again won the president ial election. He beat mitt romney. It was a little closer, but still beat him pretty badly. In that 2012 election which obama won nationwide, he still lost north dakota, this time by almost 20 points. North dakota is a red, red, red state. All statewide elected state officia
