On the Road: Florida gas prices go up due to Texas deep freeze Dan Scanlan, Florida Times-Union
Blame it on the unprecedented ice and snow in Texas and its tragic aftermath.
That s what AAA says higher gas prices that it predicts will continue to rise due to the recent winter weather blast s impact on the Gulf Coast refinery region.
Power outages knocked out gasoline refineries in Texas and neighboring states as weather interfered with fuel shipments out of the area, AAA said. Since much of Florida s gasoline comes from refineries in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, an interruption in the supply line there has a direct impact on prices here.

Florida is not alone, since that Gulf Coast area is a major source of gasoline in the United States, accounting for about 45 percent of total petroleum refining capacity. At the pump, Florida gas prices jumped 15 cents last weekend, for an average price of $2.61 per gallon. That s the highest daily gas price average since July 2019.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville family wants lights to be added to the Sisters Creek Bridge after their loved one was killed in a bicycle accident.
Brandy Harris said Chad Herrington, her 18-year-old brother, was riding his bike on Heckscher Drive the night after Thanksgiving when he didn’t see the sidewalk ending and hit the wall near the end of the bridge.
“What he didn’t know was at the end of the sidewalk, there’s two 90 degree turns that goes down to a creek side,” Harris said. ‘And he hit that wall at 15 miles per hour and him and his bike went over and he hit his head on the sign.”
