Fire reported in South Lake Tahoe

It is unknown how this fire started, but an investigation is pending. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Crews from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and surrounding agencies are responding to the area of the Upper Truckee Marsh, the scene of fire currently about one-half acre in size. The call was received at 2:06 p.m. Firefighters are determining the best way into the marsh with water as it is halfway between any streets. Lake Valley Fire, Cal Fire, and US Forest Service are all at the scene along with South Lake Tahoe Fire.

Anyone with trans-Sierra travel plans during this timeframe should keep close tabs on the forecast in the days to come. First, we have two days of above-50 temperatures and lots of sunshine. A fast-moving storm will bring some snow to the Sierra late Friday into Saturday. Possible 1 -2 of snow at lake level, 4 -6 at the crest. This is not a strong storm but could cause impacts to travel over the summits. Only light rain/snow showers expected for foothill and lower valleys. Gusty southwest-west winds will also be possible areawide with most lower elevations seeing 25-35 mph gusts, while the Sierra crest could see gusts as high as 60-80 mph.

Winter Storm Watch issued for Lake Tahoe on Christmas Day

View of Lake Tahoe from Heavenly Alert Tahoe camera on 12.23.20 SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is looking more like a white Christmas for the Lake Tahoe Basin as a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. A stormy pattern is taking shape as another Pacific storms look to impact the Sierra and western Nevada into early next week. Heavy snow is possible with this first storm and total snow accumulations of 3 to 8 inches are possible with 1 foot or more above 7000 feet. Exposed Sierra ridge winds could gust to 85 mph or higher. Travel could be very difficult over the Sierra and in the Tahoe Basin Friday night. Heavy snow and gusty winds could produce whiteout conditions at times, especially over passes.
