by Craig Takeuchi on December 16th, 2020 at 8:30 PM 1 of 5 2 of 5 Although there are some signs of decreases in COVID-19 cases in some categories, the death roll remains high in the province. In an effort to stop transmission and reduce both cases and deaths, B.C. announced that it is increasing enforcement of COVID-19 health measures. That includes shifting virtual inspections to in-person visits, asking all officers and inspectors (including gaming investigators, conservation officers, community safety unit inspectors, and liquor and cannabis inspectors) to increase inspections and support police, and directing ICBC to eliminate its reminder period for unpaid accounts and send them directly to collections.

COVID-19 in B C : Vaccinations begin, 21 deaths, 45 schools with exposures, and more

by Craig Takeuchi on December 15th, 2020 at 8:46 PM 1 of 6 2 of 6 Today marked a milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic for British Columbia. Vaccinations commenced today with healthcare workers being the first to receive them and the first person in the province to receive a vaccine was residential care aide Nisha Yunus in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was in attendance. The first person in Fraser Health to be immunized was healthcare assistant Linda Latour. Among the very first people to receive it are those who care for and support B.C. s seniors by getting immunized, they are helping to protect those most vulnerable to COVID-19 and helping us all get one step closer to ending this pandemic,” B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a news release.

COVID exposures reported at three local schools

Both schools had previous exposure events on Dec. 1-2. The district is working with Northern Health and the Medical Health Officer and are following their guidance, a statement posted to School District 57 s website says. Any individual deemed to be at risk of exposure would be contacted directly by Northern Health. Please be reassured that our schools will continue to implement the strict protocols and procedures we have in place so that children can continue to attend school as safely as possible. The safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff remains our highest priority. In a letter to parents written on Dec. 10, following the report of the school s first exposure, St. Mary s Catholic School principal Jenny Schroeder said the independent Catholic school puts the safety of students and their families first.
