BC sees its first Covid-19 vaccination

by Province of British Columbia on Tuesday Dec 15 2020 Today marks the first day of British Columbia’s provincewide COVID-19 immunizations, the most comprehensive vaccine program to ever be delivered in B.C. Over the coming days, approximately 4,000 health-care workers in British Columbia will be rolling up their sleeves to receive the first approved COVID-19 vaccine. Nisha Yunus, a 64-year old residential care aid was one of the first people in British Columbia to receive the COVID-19 immunization. Yunus has worked in the same long-term care home in the Vancouver Coastal Health region for 41 years, all in the same unit and on the same floor.

First BC healthcare workers vaccinated against COVID-19

The first healthcare workers in BC received their COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesday. The shots were administered at two clinics with secret locations to guard against tampering, one in Vancouver and the other in the Fraser Health region. BC Premier John Horgan shared an image of the first person in BC to get the shot. Her name is Nisha Yunus and she’s worked at the same long-term care facility for 40 years. Meet Nisha Yunus. She’s spent over 40 years caring for seniors at the same long-term care facility. Today, Nisha is the first in BC to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccinations commenced today with healthcare workers being the first to receive them and the first person in the province to receive a vaccine was residential care aide Nisha Yunus in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was in attendance. The first person in Fraser Health to be immunized was healthcare assistant Linda Latour. Among the very first people to receive it are those who care for and support B.C. s seniors by getting immunized, they are helping to protect those most vulnerable to COVID-19 and helping us all get one step closer to ending this pandemic,” B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a news release.
