DeKalb County Superintendent Jason Barnett last Thursday provided insight on the second round of Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits set to be distributed this year.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources received federal approval to distribute a second round of P-EBT benefits to eligible families following the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services approval of the plan on April 13, 2021.
The P-EBT program allows children to receive benefits equal to the National School Lunch Program reimbursement rate for eligible children. According to the Alabama Department of Human Resources, benefits for children attending schools will be calculated for August 2020f through May 2021.
Fyffe High School senior Trace Whitmire has gained acceptance to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, one of the top Ivy League schools in the US.
âI was admitted to Yale in the Early Action round, I found out about my acceptance on December 16, 2020,â said Whitmire. âI am still shocked about my acceptance, it feels like a dream.â
When a thick envelope arrived two weeks later from Yale University, Trace was thrilled.
âItâs the opportunity of a lifetime,â he said. âI am so honored to be given this chance.â
Whitmire plans on following a path within the Arts field along the lines of digital art or media.
