The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has launched a new pilot program, with the aim of bolstering the purchase of bison meat to support local, small, and mid-sized bison herders. The program will involve the direct delivery of bison meat to local tribal communities through the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).
Tribal producers and leaders were able to meet with USDA officials during the Great Plains Regional Ag Summit in Pierre, South Dakota, on June 6 and 7.
