Annual Vino for Vets fundraiser changes course for 2021 - Paso Robles Daily News

A photo from a prior year’s Honor Flight trip. –Honor Flight Central Coast is usually on the receiving end of donations, but this May, it’s turning the tables to help local wineries that have supported the organization that takes local military veterans on all-expense-paid trips to visit military memorials in Washington DC. For the last several years, SLO County wineries have participated in “Vino for Vets,” a Memorial Weekend fundraiser that donates a portion of wine sales to Honor Flight. This year, Honor Flight leaders want to show their appreciation and support for partners hard hit by COVID-19 and other challenges and will forego the on-site fundraiser and instead conduct a Vino for Vets Wine Raffle. Honor Flight collected wine to be assembled into five “six-pack” collections and are raffling each for a $25 entry fee. Only 150 entries will be offered for a chance to win one of the six-packs.

Posturing aside, San Simeon CSD pays Hearst family for encroachment April 27, 2021 By KAREN VELIE After posturing for more than a month, San Simeon Community Services District called for a special meeting on April 22 to approve a more than $17,000 payment it promised to pay the Hearst Corporation for allegedly encroaching on conservation easement land. San Simeon CSD directors voted unanimously last October to approve an agreement with the owners of the Hearst Ranch, which allows a portion of the district’s water treatment plant to remain temporarily on the ranch, and to pay Hearst for a survey and legal work. A few months earlier, the survey determined the district built 560 square feet of a reverse osmosis facility on the Hearst Ranch Conservation Easement.

Shirly Bianchi, 91, passed away Friday at a San Luis Obispo hospital after facing a number of health challenges, according to the County of San Luis Obispo. “The Board of Supervisors and I received the sad news that former District 2 Supervisor Shirley Bianchi died today in San Luis Obispo. She leaves behind an incredible legacy, not just as a Supervisor but also through her community advocacy and leadership in other roles. She was a true public servant and we are grateful for her service,” said District 4 Supervisor and Board Chair Lynn Compton.
