Traffic starting to build as you can see theres a little bit of red there. Folks are waking up and getting out of the house and heres a live look at 680 in walnut creek where traffic is moving but going a little slow this morning. Jess. From the live desk, we are tracking a horrific crash in the south bay. I want to show you video just coming in to the abc7 newsroom from san jose. Shows the scene of the accident on mcdaniel avenue. A car plowed into a couple trees and from this angle, you cant even tell it used to be a car. Incredibly, the driver walked away with only minor injuries. Officers say they actually found him sitting on the curb talking to people. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Police right now are talking to the driver to find out the cause of the crash and determine if alcohol was a factor. The bay area bracing for whats expected to be a weekend of protests. A rightwing rally is planned for tomorrow at San Franciscos crissy field from 2 00 to 5 00 p. M. Mayo

Also, i have the privilege today of introducing newly elected Supreme Court Justice Robin brodin to this chamber and to the idaho judiciary. Congratulations, madam justice. [ applause ] the new year also brings some key departures from our executive branch of government. Im sure you will join me in wishing kevin kemp god speed in his new National Responsibilities after two eventful and successful years as the director of the department of corrections. We are also losing sam hodge to a well deserved retirement from the office of aging. And kelly pierces experience and leadership will be missed with his recent retirement as administrator of the division of building safety. I extend my thanks and best wishes to each and every one of t
