Start COVID-19 Vaccination Of Frontline Workers From February, Centre Tells States

(File) New Delhi: The Health Ministry has asked all states and union territories to initiate vaccination of frontline workers against COVID-19 from the first week of February. Vaccination of healthcare providers that began on January 16 will continue simultaneously, the ministry said in a letter to states and union territories (UTs). In the letter, Health Ministry Additional Secretary Manohar Agnani said the database of frontline workers is being updated by states and UTs in collaboration with the respective line ministries. As on date, the database of more than 61 lakh frontline workers has been uploaded on Co-WIN portal.

A total of 9,99,065 beneficiaries vaccinated till 06:00 pm. No case of serious or severe adverse event following immunisation attributed to vaccination till date, Health Ministry Additional Secretary Manohar Angani said.

A pre-registered beneficiary in the database can be added to a session as an additional beneficiary over and above the scheduled number to maximise the number per session for better coverage, said the Health Ministry’s Additional Secretary Manohar Agnani here. According to highly-placed sources, nearly 30 per cent of the vaccinations done on Wednesday were such “added beneficiaries”.
