HONG KONG, May 5 (Xinhua) Thailand s COVID-19 tally rose by over 2,000 daily cases on Wednesday as the country grappled with its worst coronavirus outbreak so far, while over 380,000 new infections were reported in India.
Thailand s new confirmed COVID-19 cases and fatalities continued to mount. The country reported 2,112 new cases, taking the total caseload to 74,900, with 15 additional fatalities and a total death toll of 318, the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangsan said.
India s COVID-19 tally reached 20,665,148 with as many as 382,315 new cases registered during the past 24 hours, confirmed the federal health ministry. Besides, 3,780 deaths were also reported, taking the death toll to 226,188.

MALE, May 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2021 ) :The government of Maldives has extended an ongoing State of Public Health Emergency as daily case counts in the country crossed 600 amid a surge of new COVID-19 infections, local media reported Wednesday.
A circular signed by Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem said that a State of Public Health Emergency, first declared on March 12, 2020, will once again be extended until June 3.
The emergency grants the director-general of public health special powers to quarantine and isolate individuals.
Meanwhile, 601 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in the Maldives on Tuesday as the country continued to break its daily infection record. Data from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) shows that 440 cases were recorded in the capital region of Greater Male alone.

The state of public health emergency first declared across the Maldives on 12 March 2020 amid fears of the Covid-19 pandemic has been extended until 3 June 2021.
The announcement was publicized in a press release signed by the Minister for Health Ahmed Naseem, which stated that the ministry had decided to extend the state of public health emergency, first announced on 12 March 2020 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, to 3 June 2021 as per the powers vested in them in the Public Health Protection Act (No. 7/12), under recommendations by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru.

The government of Canada has made a donation in support of the Maldivian government’s efforts to boost medical waste management.
In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Canadian government approved the project worth 1.35 million Canadian Dollars, of which the signing ceremony took place on Tuesday.
The project, titled “Disinfections of Medical Waste” will support the government’s efforts to strengthen medical waste management nationwide as well as aid the country’s efforts to combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
