CLEMSON, S.C. - Lucas Glover (men's golf) and Jack Leggett (baseball), two of the most heralded members of their respected Clemson programs, were named to the 2024 state of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame class, announced Tuesday. Glover joins former Head Coach Larry Penley (2023) as inductees from the men's golf program, and Leggett is the ninth person affiliated with Tiger baseball to be inducted. Glover was a three-time All-American at Clemson, including a first-team selection in 2000 and 2001. He won three tournaments during his career and was a three-time South Carolina Amateur champion. He helped Clemson to a No. 2 NCAA finish as a freshman and senior. He won two PGA Tour events in 2023 in back-to-back weeks and has seven tournament titles since beginning his professional career in 2002. Clemson, S.C. Turk Pettit continued his outstanding play in the NCAA Tournament with an opening-round 68 to lead Clemson to a tie for 10th after the first round of the NCAA National Tournament at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale Arizona. The Tigers had a team score of seven-over-par 287 on the par 70 layout that measures 7,289 yards in length.Clemson is part of a log jam in the 30-team field with the 287 score. Wake Forest, Arkansas, SMU, and Illinois are all tied with the Tigers for 10th with the same 287 score. Only three shots separate the 11 teams who are between eighth and 17th place.Clemson has an early tee time for the second round, as Head Coach Larry Penley’s team will begin play off the 10th tee at 6:32 a.m. Pacific time, 9:32 a.m. on the east coast. Bridgeman Named to US Palmer Cup Team
Clemson, S.C. Clemson junior Jacob Bridgeman has been named to the 2021 United States Palmer Cup Team. The announcement was made on Tuesday on The Golf Channel. The Palmer Cup will be played June 11-13, 2021 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men’s and women’s university/college golfers, matching the United States against a team of international players.
Bridgeman leads the nation in stroke average with a 69.24 figure, an average that is on pace to be a Clemson single-season record. He has a team-best six top 10 finishes in seven tournaments this year, including two victories. He is ranked as the third-best player in the nation by Golfweek and seventh-best by Golfstat. He has 16 under-par rounds and is 40-under-par in his aggregate score for his 21 total rounds.
