Valeria Yackshaw Genetti, 83, Hazleton
The wife of Gus Genetti Jr., Val had a witty sense of humor and an endearing smile. Her favorite things were family and traveling, but mostly it was combining the two â traveling with her family around the world. She loved Neil Diamond and ABBA, enjoyed playing pinochle, reading Danielle Steele books, watching detective-cop shows and enjoying coffee in her bedroom in the mornings. She was the vice president of the Genetti Hospitality Group of Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport and Dickson City. She was a past board member of Kingâs College Century Club, past president of W-B Jaycettes, past president of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Auxiliary, past board of directors of CYC, member of the Slovak Heritage Society and a volunteer of NEPA Red Cross Blood Center. She died Dec. 22.

The Rev. Michael R. Gardy, 76, of Muncy, died and left his Earthly pain and suffering to be restored in the arms of our heavenly father on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at UPMC, Williamsport, after three days in intensive care.
He was born June 6, 1944 in Hazleton, where he was raised, a son of the late Michael and Clara Mae (Knelly) Gardy. On May 31, 1969 he married the former Sally A. Snyder, who survives. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Michael graduated from Hazleton High School, received his B.A. from Lycoming College, Williamsport, and his Master of Divinity from Wesley Seminary in Washington. D.C. He received numerous other certificates and accolades including coursework at American and George Washington Universities, Clinical Pastoral Education from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, training in leader education, parent effectiveness, management effectiveness and neurolinguistics, and studied with Dr. Ed Friedman in Bethesda, Md.
Attorney Lawrence M. Klemow, aka âPapa,â 76, of Sugarloaf Twp. died early Tuesday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton surrounded by his family. He died from complications of COVID-19.
Larry was born in Hazleton to Grace and Phillip Klemow. He married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Marion Novotnak, and continued to share a wonderful life together. Larry was a graduate of Hazleton High School, Drexel University and Temple Law school.
A lawyer, Larry started his career as an assistant district attorney in Luzerne County and became first assistant district attorney. He was in private practice for many years and finished his career as a senior law clerk, also at Luzerne County, from which he retired in 2018.
Val Genetti, born Valeria Elaine Yackshaw on April 28, 1937 in Hazleton, passed away peacefully due to complications related to COVID-19 Tuesday in Wilkes-Barre, where she lived for 50 years.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Gus Genetti, Jr.,; children, Valeria Bozek, Gus III, Patricia, Cathy (Charles Sansone), Maria and Jacqueline Sullivan (Michael). She was the sister of Mary Jean Greco and the late John (Jack) Yackshaw. She was the cherished grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of two, and sister-in-law, aunt and friend of many.
A lifelong resident of Northeastern Pennsylvania, she was supportive and involved in many ways within the community. Whether she was attending an event or sharing in philanthropic endeavors, she was a partner with her husband Gus in every (ad)venture.
