GALESBURG A mother has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her 7-year-old daughter on Sunday.
According to a Galesburg Police Department news release, police responded to the 1500 block of McKnight Street in reference to an unknown problem with a child. Upon arrival, a 7-year-old female victim was found dead from apparent knife wounds.
A joint investigation was conducted by the Galesburg Police Department, Knox County Sheriff s office, Knox County State s Attorney s Office and the Illinois State Police.
As a result of the investigation, the victim s mother, Hazel L. Ivy, 29, has been arrested and charged with murder in the first degree.

School crisis team responds to tragic death of seven year old in Galesburg
GALESBURG Following the tragic death of a 7 year old in the community, members of the school crisis team from the local regional office of education and Galesburg District 205 will make themselves available for counseling for both students and adults affected by the tragedy.
The regional office and school district will have qualified staff available for anyone needing counseling, both students and members of the public, at Steele school at 1480 West Main Street from 8 to 4 p.m. today, Monday.
