The Environment Agency issued a red flood warning near the River Weaver at Acton Bridge and Weaverham on Thursday – warning that Sandy Lane and Warrington Road were again at risk. But the warning was removed this morning, as the Environment Agency says river levels have fallen below the risk threshold in the area. It had been issued due to rising river levels at Pickerings Cut, which peaked at 5.92m at 2am today, but water levels have since begun to fall.

The Environment Agency has issued an amber flood alert for the River Weaver catchment, including the Weaver Navigation through Winsford, due to rising river levels at Hayhurst Bridge in Northwich. It means flooding is possible in the area and residents should be prepared. An Environment Agency spokesman said: “Flooding of low lying land, roads and farmland is possible this afternoon, going into this evening. “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the rivers Weaver, Ducklow and Wheelock and their tributaries.

The body has announced a red flood warning for the River Weaver at Acton Bridge and Weaverham – meaning flooding is expected and immediate action is required. An Environment Agency spokesman said: “River levels are rising at the Pickerings Cut river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall throughout this morning, January 28. “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for some properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane at around 1pm this afternoon.

The north west is currently experiencing heavy rainfall from Storm Christoph, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for rain from today through to Thursday in mid Cheshire. The Environment Agency has issued two flood alerts for the area, meaning flooding is possible and residents should be prepared. On of those alerts is in place for the River Weaver catchment, including Northwich and Winsford, where river levels are expected to peak tomorrow.
