On Tuesday evening, 79-year-old academic Roop Rekha Verma and another person who prefers not to be identified submitted papers to stand surety for the Malayalam journalist.
Nine days since he received bail in the UAPA case from the SC, Kappan’s lawyer, Mohamed Dhanish, told 'The Quint' that people were probably hesitant to stand surety because of the 'sensitive nature of the case.'
Kappan has been in jail since his arrest on October 5, 2020, by Uttar Pradesh police under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) while going to Hathras after the rape and murder of a Dalit girl.
Siddique Kappan has been granted bail by Supreme Court after Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court denied his bail plea. Wife Raihanath said “these two years were tough. We faced deep emotions and sufferings”
