Acclaim: Recent honors for Emory faculty and staff

Ann Schwartz, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and director of psychiatry residency education, received the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award, which recognizes program directors who have fostered innovation and improvement in their residency/fellowship programs and served as exemplary role models for residents and fellows. The award is given to 10 program directors nationwide and is the top honor for a program director. Sharon Ashley, senior program coordinator for emergency medicine education, received  the Debra L. Dooley GME Program Coordinator Excellence Award. The honor goes to program coordinators in recognition of their in-depth understanding of the accreditation process, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and projects to improve residency programs. 

Two Penn faculty named Hastings Center Fellows

Scott D. Halpern and Jennifer Prah Ruger are acknowledged for their outstanding accomplishments in ethics and health. Scott D. Halpern and Jennifer Prah Ruger have been named Hastings Center Fellows in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in deepening public understanding of complex ethical issues in health, health care, science, and technology.  Halpern and Prah Ruger are two of 14 new Hastings Center Fellows joining an elected group of more than 200 that produce publications on ethical issues in health, science, and technology that inform policy, practice, and public understanding of bioethics. These individuals are chosen for insight and experience in managing the ethical questions and societal effects that arise as a consequence of advances in the life sciences, the need to improve health and health care for people of all ages, and mitigation of human impact on the natural world.
