Kachloul Summer Talks Friday, 25th May 2001 13:26
A national newspaper is suggesting that Town are to hold summer talks with Hassan Kachloul. The out of contract Moroccan is available on a free transfer in the summer and Town and Spurs are both linked with a move for the Southampton player.
Town have already failed to sign Kachloul twice. Last summer a fee of £2 million was agreed between the two clubs but the player decided he wanted to stay at the Dell and bide his time. Later on another deal fell through agains as the player wished to take his time before committing himself to another club or a new contract at Southampton. It was around this time that Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe claimed that Kachloul s wage demands were in the region of £25,000 a week. According to Town manager George Burley wages were not actually discussed between Kachloul and Town. Later Chelsea were linked with a summer move for the 28-year-old.
Arsenal threatened to spoil the party by taking a shock lead after 26-minutes when Ashley Cole sprinted down the left, had a shot parried but knocked home the rebound. But just 35-seconds after the break Kachloul got his first league goal since the opening day of the season chipping in from the left edge of the area. The Gunners hit back on 54-minutes when Thierry Henry broke clear and squared for Freddie Ljungberg to slot home unmarked. But Saints levelled again on the hour when Kachloul prodded into an empty net following a firm challenge on the keeper by James Beattie.
