IT was a special day - and unsurprisingly, Matt Le Tissier was the hero once again. On May 19, 2001, Saints said goodbye to the Dell in stunning style with a 3-2 victory over Arsenal. They were made to work for it when Ashley Cole and Freddie Ljungberg put Arsenal ahead, but Hassan Kachloul equalised twice. It looked set to be played out as a draw but Le Tissier once again wrote himself into the history books with a last-minute winner to steal the point. The party was almost spoilt with a good-humoured pitch invasion at the final whistle when an army of stewards did a tremendous job to get the ground clear for a lap of honour to take place.
Kachloul Demands Unrealistic Friday, 19th Jan 2001 20:05
It looks as though Hassan Kachloul is certainly on his way from Southampton as his demands have been branded unrealistic by Saints chairman Rupert Lowe. Talks have been going on since Wednesday with Southampton keen to keep the Moroccan.
Lowe said: These have been difficult negotiations and, as things stand, the demands made are unrealistic. His representatives came in with a salary demand that is massively outside our existing pay structure and we are not prepared to break that. The matter rests with Hassan. It depends whether he is reasonable as to whether he stays with us.
Burley Quote on Johnson Wednesday, 10th Jan 2001 13:27
Further details of the possible deal sending David Johnson to Nottingham Forest are beginning to emerge. Davis Platt was definitely sighted at Portman Road last night and presumably went into talks with David Sheepshanks after the game.
George Burley is being reported as telling a radio station after the game: I ve spoken to David and he wants first team football, but at the moment I can t offer him that. He will decide if he wants to go. If he doesn t want to then we are happy to keep him as he has been a tremendous asset.
