Image Source: IANS News New Delhi, Dec 21 : The Indian Youth Congress on Monday staged a protest outside Krishi Bhawan here demanding justice for farmers who had died while protesting against the three contentious farm laws. Hundreds of Youth Congress activists assembled at its office here and marched towards Krishi Bhawan, which houses the Agriculture Ministry, under the leadership of National President B.V. Srinivas. They raised slogans against the BJP-ruled Centre. They were soon detained outside the Krishi Bhawan by Delhi Police.

Another Punjab farmer tries to commit suicide at Singhu border   Mon, Dec 21 2020 06:53:53 PM Chandigarh, Dec 21 (IANS): A 65-year-old farmer from Punjab tried to commit suicide by consuming poison at the Delhi-Haryana Singhu border in protest against the Centre s farm laws, officials said. The victim, Niranjan Singh from Tarn Taran, was admitted to the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences or PGIMS in Rohtak, where his condition is out of danger. Earlier, Sikh priest Baba Ram Singh committed suicide at Singhu border on December 16 by shooting himself. He belonged to Nanaksar Gurdwara in Singhra village in Haryana s Karnal district.

Centre asks unions to pick date for talks as Modi visits Delhi gurdwara

New Delhi, December 20 The Centre on Sunday wrote to the protesting farm unions, inviting them for the next round of talks and asking them to choose a date. In a letter to the union leaders, Agriculture Ministry Joint Secretary Vivek Aggarwal wrote, “I request those previously invited protesting union leaders to provide details of their remaining concerns and doubts and suggest a date as per convenience for the next round of talks.” The earlier five rounds of formal talks between the government and 40 farmers’ unions failed to break the impasse, with the farmers insisting that the Centre’s recent farm laws be repealed.

File photo NEW DELHI: Farmer unions announced a day-long relay hunger strike on Monday at all protest sites to press for the repeal of the Centre s new agri laws even as Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is likely to hold talks with the protesting groups in a day or two to discuss their demands. Farmers in Punjab and Haryana as well as those protesting on Delhi s borders observed Shradhanjali Diwas on Sunday to pay homage to their brethren who died during the ongoing agitation . Farmers bodies have claimed that over 30 farmers participating in the stir have died due to different reasons including heart attack and road accidents. The farmers performed ardaas (prayer) and in some places they also took out protest marches against the Centre.
