Farmers Protest: Haryana government defeated the No-Confidence Motion by 23 votes yesterday
New Delhi/Chandigarh:
Hours after a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led Haryana government was defeated, ruling party MLAs have begun to face farmers fury. A protest broke out today outside one such legislator s residence while an independent, too, bore the brunt. Yesterday, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers organisations that has over the past few months spearheaded the protest against three contentious farm laws, called for the social boycott of those Assembly members who voted in favour of the state government.
There is no clarity on their plans but two JJP MLAs Jogi Ram Sihag and Devender Babli had earlier announced support for the farmers’ agitation. Even Kanda, on the first day of the session, had expressed to the Speaker his inability to attend the session on account of a function at Sirsa.
All the three parties are not taking any chances all have issued three-line whips to their MLAs to vote along the party lines on Wednesday.
Fearing that some of the party MLAs could support the no-confidence motion, the Dushyant Chautala-led JJP on Tuesday issued a “three-line whip” asking its MLAs to support the coalition government. The three-line whip can be violated only if one-third of the JJP legislators decide to cast their vote against the party line.
