New Delhi: As the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi face intense criticism for their handling of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, a host of Union ministers and BJP functionaries on Tuesday tweeted an article published by a website called ‘The Daily Guardian’ which screamed in bold, capital letters that the prime minister has been “working hard”, asking readers not to get trapped by the “opposition’s barbs”.
If anyone has been wondering what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been up to when the Covid second wave is brutalising India, the answer is blowing in countless data packets.
Several Union ministers and senior BJP leaders have been sharing a column titled “PM Modi has been working hard; don’t get trapped in the opposition’s barbs”.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar today admitted that farmers’ protests were responsible for the poor performance of the BJP-JJP combine in the local bodies poll.
Addressing a press conference today, Khattar said despite “adverse circumstances”, the BJP won one municipal corporation mayoral post and one president’s post in a municipal council, while the Congress and Haryana Jan Chetna Party bagged a mayor’s post each.
When questioned whether the farmers’ protest was behind the losses, he said he had hinted at it while mentioning the “adverse circumstances”.
However, he said the BJP had performed better than the Congress. “We have won in 36 wards while the Congress bagged just 19. The verdict is out. We are ahead,” he said.

A month after thousands of farmers started protests against the new farm laws, the ruling BJP-JJP alliance in Haryana suffered a setback as it lost two of the three mayoral seats and all the three municipal committee president’s posts in the elections held on Sunday.
The BJP won in Panchkula where its mayoral candidate Kulbhushan Goyal defeated Upinder Kaur Ahluwalia of the Congress by a slender margin of 2,057 votes.
Former CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s confidant Nikhil Madaan became Sonepat Mayor, defeating Lalit Batra of the BJP by 13,817 votes.
In Ambala, former Union minister Venod Sharma’s wife Shakti Rani Sharma (Haryana Jan Chetna Party) emerged victorious, defeating BJP’s Vandana Sharma by 8,084 votes. The Congress nominee finished a distant fourth.

New Delhi, Dec 31 : Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has strengthened his position in the Congress after the civic body elections and the recent Baroda Assembly bypoll win.
Both the wins are from the Sonepat region of the state, which is Hooda s stronghold.
The wins have reinforced his claim of being the super challenger to the BJP and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in particular in the state. It also establishes his power within the Congress as the sole leader who has been able to not only retain his backyard but is also trying to give a hard time to the BJP in other areas.
