The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders are on opposite ends when it comes to numbers this cross country season. But the competition for varsity spots is similar. “We’ve got a lot of great competitions going on in practice,” Helias coach Leslie Verslues said as the Crusaders and Lady Crusaders start the season at the Cross Country Kickoff today at Gans Creek in Columbia. “We’ve enjoyed lots of good running practices.”
The Helias Lady Crusaders finished 16th in the Class 4 state track and field championships last season. They’re looking for a better finish this year. “There’s a lot of points out there I think we can get at state,” Helias coach Phil Pitts said as the track team prepared for today’s opener against Jefferson City and Rolla at Adkins Stadium.
