Matthew Malmstrom’s journey to the medal stand began on a rainy day last year. Helias’ track practice had been moved inside due to the weather and the then freshman Malmstrom was working out with some of his friends on the team.
The Helias Lady Crusaders finished 16th in the Class 4 state track and field championships last season. They’re looking for a better finish this year. “There’s a lot of points out there I think we can get at state,” Helias coach Phil Pitts said as the track team prepared for today’s opener against Jefferson City and Rolla at Adkins Stadium.
