2 kayakers, dog rescued from Susquehanna River

2 kayakers, dog rescued from Susquehanna River Updated 12:05 PM; Rescue crews saved two adults and their dog after their kayaks capsized in the Susquehanna River Sunday afternoon. Crews were dispatched when they got word of two kayakers in the water, clinging to a bridge pier, said Harrisburg River Rescue Water Safety Division Chief Tony Reigle. The kayakers were found holding on to the old railroad bridge piers south of City Island, where crews rescued them by boat and returned them to shore. It’s unknown what caused them to capsize. Neither kayaker was wearing a life jacket, Reigle said. Under state regulations, people are required to wear personal flotation devices in the cold-weather months between Nov. 1 and April 30 while on boats less than 16 feet long, or in canoes or kayaks.

Harrisburg hotel fire contained to utility shaft, minimal damage reported

Harrisburg hotel fire contained to utility shaft, minimal damage reported Updated Mar 15, 2021; Facebook Share HARRISBURG – A fire broke out in an enclosed concrete shaft, shooting up from the basement to the roof, at the Crowne Plaza hotel Monday. Luckily, the blaze was contained to the “blind shaft” that houses pipes running through the building, Harrisburg Bureau of Fire Chief Brian Enterline said. No one was injured, and because the fire was contained to the shaft, damage to the hotel was minimal. Enterline said the fire call came in around 11:25 a.m., and when crews got to the scene at 23 S. Second St., smoke was coming from the front of the building on the first floor.
