TARRYTOWN, NY Just 40 finalists including three from the Hudson Valley were named Thursday in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2021, the nation s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors.
They were chosen from 1,760 highly qualified entrants, all of whom completed an original research project and extensive application process. SEE: 33 Hudson Valley Students Named Regeneron Scholars For 2021.
They are: Jared Ilan, Byram Hills High School; Rebecca Monge, Carmel High School; and Michael Pavelchek, Ossining High School.

DETROIT, MI A U.S. attorney involved in several key federal cases in Michigan is resigning.
U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider submitted his letter of resignation to President Joe Biden Wednesday shortly after the president was sworn into office, the U.S. Justice Department said Thursday. Schneider s resignation is effective Feb. 1.
Schneider will be joining Honigman, a private law firm in Detroit, in February as a partner and co-leader of the firm s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice, the law firm confirmed to Patch Thursday.

LEMONT, IL Four Lemont High School students were honored with January Student of the Month accolades at the district s Board of Education meeting on Jan. 19. SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA Some 25,000 Santa Cruz County Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers were in the dark as of 3 p.m. Tuesday as strong, gusty winds blew across California.
The hardest-hit areas included Scotts Valley (6,400 affected), Boulder Creek (2,900 affected), Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley (2,700 affected) Watsonville (2,300 affected), Interlaken (1,700 affected) and Santa Cruz (1,200 affected).
Just to the north, more than 50,000 Bay Area PG&E customers were without power during the height of the outages, said spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian in an email. About 40,000 of those customers had their power restored by 1 p.m.
