SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - Getting books into kid s hands. That s the goal of free book libraries in Siouxland.
Officials with the Prime Age to Engage committee have put lending libraries all over the community. While many of them are inside buildings, a few recent ones have been built outside.
The newest ones sit at Covington Elementary and Harney Elementary in South Sioux City. Administrators with the district worked in collaboration with Siouxland Human Investment Partnership and The North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters to get these book houses. We can t have too many books in the hands of kids, said Becky Eckhardt, South Sioux City Schools Student Services Director. We do have wonderful public libraries that children can access books. We are trying to get more little lending libraries in our communities so that kids can walk or bike to them anytime they want.
