Farm leaders of 32 groups of the protesting unions of Punjab on Thursday said that no farmer had died due to Covid at the Singhu border.
They alleged that the government was making a conspiracy to defame their protest by spreading lies about the death of a farmer due to coronavirus.
Farmer leaders Harender Singh Lakhowal and Kulwinder Singh Sandhu, after a meeting of 32 protesting farmer unions held in Kisan Andolan office in Kundli on Thursday, said no farmer had died due to Covid at the Singhu border.
Farmer Balbir Singh of Shankarpur village of Patiala district died due to diabetes as his sugar dipped all of a sudden, while another farmer died due to cardiac arrest.

In a twist in the “plot” to disrupt Republic Day rally, the youth “nabbed” by the farmer leaders for creating mischief last evening has turned the tables on them by claiming he was thrashed by them and forced to narrate a concocted story to the media.
The farmer leaders, present during the press meet yesterday, have denied the accused’s statement before the police.
The ‘conspiracy’
Farmer leaders had paraded a youth nabbed by them. He reportedly confessed about a “conspiracy” to disturb the rally and eliminate four prominent farmer leaders. He claimed that there were 10 people in the team and they were getting instructions from Rai SHO Pradeep.

Protesting farmers on Kundli border nabbed a miscreat in police uniform late Friday evening, whom they alleged was sent by someone to create disturbance in their peaceful agitation.
Members of farmers’ union Rakesh Tikait, Jagjeet Singh Dallewal, Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Manjeet Singh Rai, Harender Singh Lakhowal and others in a press conference held late night, alleged that the government wanted to create disturbance in their peaceful agitation.
The youth was presented at the press conference by farmer leaders.
The suspected youth confessed about the conspiracy that they had been ordered to disturb the parade which is scheduled to be held on Republic Day, the farmer leaders claimed.

The leaders also said they have deferred their meeting by a day to Wednesday, to decide on a response to the Government s letter asking them to fix a date for the next round of talks.
