i m yasmin vossoughian on a very busy start afternoon. breaking news, the president just signed the debt ceiling bill. into law. it happened just a couple of moments ago. it comes after the president took a victory lap, a victory many thought he could not achieve. i know bipartisanship is hard. and unity is hard. we can never stop trying. because in moments like this one, the ones we just faced, where the american economy in the world economy is at risk of collapsing, there s no other way, no matter how tough our politics get, we need to see each other not as evident adversaries, as fellow americans. fellow americans. right now in iowa, a cavalcade of gop presidential candidates, all in one place. with one notable exception. that exception may have bigger things to worry about, new reporting on the special counsel investigation in the former president, and the document donald trump s lawyers cannot seem to find. all of that, plus, we are following the horrific scene in in
ceiling bill. the vote was 63 to 36. it comes some 24 hours after the house passed the same bill. it raises the nation s debt limit while also imposing new caps on spending. and now goes to the presidents desk for his signature, with four days to go before the monday default deadline. let s get straight to nbc news capitol hill correspondent ali vitale, who has been standing by for hours and hours. all, right ali vitale. it happened. how did this whole thing go down tonight? yeah, it was less with a bang and more with a whimper, stephanie ruhle. weeks and weeks of high stakes negotiations here in washington covering each and every turn of them, as speaker mccarthy and his top allies huddled with top white house officials over the course of several weeks to hammer out this deal. and now the senate finishing it up in the dead of night, sending it now to the presidents desk, and avoiding default, with the days to go until that ex date deadline on monday. that s good news. an
desantis as the man who could prevent their future national nightmare of a return trump trip to the white house. now the media consensus is that trump should be the nominee because he would be the easiest candidate for joe biden to be. that is up to question giving democratic doubts of the president s age and fitness the nap spill he took at the air force academy. media favorite to media piñata. i am howard kurtz and this is media buzz. we will look at why kevin mccarthy dominated the debt ceiling coverage over biden and how it is being spun. ron desantis had indicated finally taking some swings at donald trump. much of the media is peddling the florida governor. if you say cuomo did a better job with cuomo than kobe did, first of all, that is not what he used to say. his whole family moved to florida under my governorship. you don t think they will play dirty with ron desantis. they will burn this man to the ground. somehow desantis would be part of it by lacking.
saturday june 3rd, i m ali velshi, if you can believe at the iowa caucus which has kicked off the republican primary seasons are only about seven months away. the slate of candidates lining up to the 2024 republican presidential nominee has been filling up for the past couple of months. the field is about to get crowded over the next several days, but three more republicans expected to officially announce the presidential bids in the early part of next week. on tuesday, the former new jersey governor, chris christie, is expected to jump into the race with the formal announcement schedule during a town hall event in new hampshire, where he finished in six place. the last time he ran for the presidency in 2016. on wednesday, the former vice president, mike pence will celebrate his 64th birthday by making his presidential bid official and the months of speculation and setting up a challenge against his former boss. on the same day, the incumbent north dakota governor, doug burgu
