Ann Arbor City Council passed a resolution Monday night directing the city administrator to establish an unarmed team to respond to public safety calls.
The idea behind the team is to reduce violent encounters with the police. The resolution posits that experts, specifically non-police people who have training in public health, mental health, and human services, are better equipped to respond to certain emergencies. Even during non-confrontational police-public interactions involving public health, mental health, and human service needs, the presence of a holstered firearm may give rise to feelings of unease and intimidation, particularly among persons from BIPOC communities, the resolution says.

Anderson said he was shocked and didn’t understand why his bill was so high.
He also voiced frustration with what he felt was a lack of transparency and outreach on the part of the city.
A joint statement put out by city officials provided some context for the increased prices.
“In mid-February 2021, energy markets across the middle of the U.S. experienced unprecedented pricing activity amid a major weather event that pushed Arctic air as far south as Texas.
