Big-box retailers, like Walmart, seem to sell everything a shopper needs. From plants to photo services, places like Walmart have been allowed to sell their goods in-store, unlike most local businesses who were forced to close the doors to foot traffic for a second time in less than a year due to provincial regulations.
The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce has started a petition to ban the sale of non-essential items in big-box stores, saying it’s unfair to small businesses, and the movement is gaining support.

A small store that popped up in downtown Cornwall just a year ago is happy to have been saluted with a provincial Small Businesses, Big Hearts Award.
The Happy Popcorn Co. is being recognized for its generosity in assisting others in the community.

“The (business helped its) local community by donating services, resources and time to help others so that the vulnerable can be in a better position to rebound from the economic challenges brought on by COVID-19,” said Stormont Dundas South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell in a provincial news release.
