The Manatee County Animal Welfare has more than 100 adoptable dogs at its Palmetto Adoption Center. Because of the major influx of dogs, they are waiving adoption fees.
Local Dog fosters are urgently needed. A highly-populated shelter creates a stressful environment for the dogs at the Palmetto Adoption Center. Fostering benefits pets in a variety of ways: to decompress and relax, to socialize with people and other pets and to learn how to live in a home.
Presented with a $17 million plan, commissioners told county staff to come back with a more frugal $8 million plan for the Bishop Animal Shelter addition.
