Hanoi (VNA) – The Investigation Police Agency
under the Ministry of Public Security on March 17 took legal action against Nguyen
Duc Chung, former Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, citing his involvement
in the purchase of the water cleaning agent Redoxy 3C to purify lakes in the
city that ran counter to regulations and caused losses to the State.
During the investigation into the case of “violating
regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and
wastefulness” at the Hanoi People’s Committee and related units, initiated in

The Hanoi People’s Court will open a 10-day trial on March 8 to hear a case of violations of regulations on investment in construction works, causing serious consequences, at an ethanol plant in the northern province of Phu Tho.
The 12 defendants include
Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of
the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam); Trinh Xuan Thanh, former
Chairman and General Director of the PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC); Vu Thanh
Ha, former General Director of the PetroVietnam Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC
(PVB); and Do Van Hong, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director
of the Kinh Bac Petroleum Construction and Investment JSC.
Thanh is prosecuted for violating State regulations on
investment in construction works, causing severe consequences under Article 224, clause 3 of the 2015 Penal Code, and for abusing position

Ex-Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang and nine accomplices were brought to trial on January 7 for violations at the ministry and in Ho Chi Minh City that caused losses of some US$118 million.

The first-instance trial was held by the Hanoi People’s Court.
Hoang, born in 1953, and Phan Chi Dung, born in 1957 and the former Director of the Light Industry Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), faced a charge of “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and wastefulness”.
The eight other defendants, who are former HCM City officials, including Nguyen Huu Tin, born in 1957 and the former Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, were accused of “violating regulations on land management”.
