Ready for talks, but govt should send concrete proposal: Farmers Union

New Delhi, Dec 23: Farmers protesting against the centre s new farm law on Wednesday said that they are willing to accept invitation for talks but are waiting for the government to hold discussions with an open mind and present concrete proposals.

Speaking at a press conference at the Singhu border, Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav said, The United Farmers Front today has written a letter to the government. It states that the government shouldn t question the letter written by United Farmers Front previously as it was a unanimous decision. The government s new letter is a fresh attempt to defame the farmers associations.
NEW DELHI: Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday said that the government is ready to make any necessary changes to the draft proposal on the new farm laws and hoped to resume dialogue with the farmers. Meanwhile, the farmer unions also expressed their willingness to resume talks but said the government must come up with a concrete proposal this time.
Earlier today, Tomar hoped that the farmers will come forward to resume dialogue with the Centre to resolve the deadlock over the contentious laws and urged the protesting unions to fix a date and time for the next round of talks.

Protesting farmer unions on Wednesday said that the government should not repeat “meaningless” amendments to the new agri-marketing laws but come up with a concrete proposal in writing during the next round of talks.
A farmer leader, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, said they were ready for talks, but first the Centre should send a concrete proposal for that to happen.
“We have already told Union home minister Amit Shah that protesting farmers will not accept amendments,” farmer leader Kumar Kakka said at the media interaction.
