The controversy over who was responsible for the murder suspects release is growing more inflammatory. Reporter the federal bureau of Land Management confirms that gun did belong to one of its agents. And while theories about how it ended up in the killers hands run rampant, the man accused of pulling the trigger sits here in the San Francisco jail his bond set at 5 million. The gun used in the murder of 32yearold kate steinle was recovered in the bay near pier 14 where she was shot while walking with her father a week ago. Forensics traced the serial number to a federal agent. It had been stolen from the agents car during a street burglary in downtown San Francisco. The suspect in kates murder Juan Francisco sanchez says he found the gun on the pier wrapped in a shirt and that it went off accidentally in his hand. He pleaded not guilty to murder. San Leandro Police requested help from chp and the sheriff. They have been making loud speaker announcements trying to find the suspects. They found nothing in the neighborhood.
