in sort of going through the timeline, trying to memorize all the names, remembering all the different blocks that were a foot here, one of the necessary consequences of the distributed system that you are talking about is that they have tons of opportunities to legally tried to overthrow the election results, right? there was a full, hand recount in every county in the state. and that produced the result that biden won and nothing changed. and then, there was another full recount demanded by the trump campaign that produced the result that joe biden won and nothing changed. and then, there was the signature audit, something totally unprecedented in georgia s history, that they did nevertheless. they went down there. the white house chief of staff went down there stood in the hallway and loomed over like equipment. he did that. and the results of it was that joe biden won, nothing changed. they did all sorts of things that were pushing they brought lawsuits to overthrow the election
a partisan. i can tell you from having done this that often i would get on the phone with a local prosecutor when investigating the same thing and say to them i need you to stand down. the problem here is i did that inside new jersey where those folks had to continue to work with me after this case. here they don t have to work together. and so there is less leverage that jack smith has against a fani willis or alvin bragg to say back off because you will need me later on something else. don t do this for an ego boost. which is i think what she did here. the other part what jonathan said as well. the conduct that underlies here is not just a simple election contest. donald trump had three counts of the vote here in georgia, the original count, machine recount and then a hand recount. all those things were given at his request, the last two in particular. he also was able to contest
with others on his behalf, the pressure campaign that was put on these folks. look, donald trump got due process in georgia. there s the original count, there was a machine recount. then there was a hand recount. all of which came up with essentially the same result. he had access to all the courts in georgia to contest it in the same way that al gore contested these matters in florida back in 2000. the difference being, when al gore lost his case, he conceded and moved on. donald trump ratcheted the pressure up even more, ultimately resulting in what we saw january 6th. so there s a lot of disturbing conduct here by donald trump and the others named in the indictment. what about the racketeering charges specifically? as a former prosecutor, i would think you ve used rico statutes, statewide and federal.
