Grubhub takes an unauthorized bite out of some Seacoast restaurants

My food was never delivered  are five words no restaurant owner wants to hear, especially when your business is takeout only and doesn t have a delivery service.  That s what happened to Hugo Castellanos, owner of Mad Pork in North Hampton. A customer ordered from his restaurant through Grubhub, a service Castellanos has chosen not to partner with. Their order showed up hours late. He said he felt taken advantage of, after seeing the food delivery giant advertising his business on the platform without his knowledge. They added us to their website without my consent and, if they had asked, we would have said no, Castellanos said. The advertisement it said could take upwards of 60 minutes to deliver. That s not OK. Everything I sell is fresh, made to order, so that kind of delay is not acceptable and reduces the quality of my service.

Hassan co-sponsors act that will help businesses like Exile Burrito

BERLIN — Two months before the opening of Exile Burrito restaurant in downtown Berlin, Gov. Chris Sununu declared a state of emergency because of COVID-19 and closed all indoor dining. Owner Adam Hammill told U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) he decided to go forward with opening the restaurant despite the pandemic because he had spent a year and a half planning it. Hammill said running the restaurant has been difficult and along the way he had to lay-off some employees. Hassan said most businesses that started up after Feb. 15, 2020 have been unable to access COVID-19 relief programs. She said she has co-sponsored the “Recovery Startup Assistance Act” as part of the stimulus bill just passed by Congress to provide payroll assistance to small businesses that started up during the pandemic.
