THE High Sheriff of Hampshire visited The Hampshire Court Hotel this morning to receive his second Covid vaccine. Phillip Sykes was given a warm welcome by staff and volunteers when he arrived in his formal attire to be given a dose of the Pfizer jab. The 66-year-old, who lives in Steventon, was met by his wife Caroline who is a GP at Camrose, Gillies, and Hackwood Partnership in Basingstoke, and who has been assisting with the vaccine rollout in the town. However, it was Ken Taylor who administered the vaccine for the Sheriff. Ken received more than 40 hours’ training to help with the vaccine rollout, having previously worked in finance for the NHS.

We have been working really hard over the past months, and it’s great to see people turning up for the vaccine.” Having opened just before Christmas, The Hampshire Court Hotel was named one of the top five performing Covid-19 vaccination sites in the country in the last week of March, just after crossing the 50,000-vaccine mark.

The team at the Hampshire Court Hotel and Basingstoke Fire Station won the health and care award at the Place to be Proud of Awards, which took place on April 29. Hosted by Destination Basingstoke virtually for the second year running, the ceremony gave out ten awards to the heroes of Basingstoke. Among them were the healthcare professionals and volunteers who have run the town s vaccination centres, with the award coming on the day that the Hampshire Court Hotel administered its 100,000th vaccine. It has been recognised as one of the best performing centres in the UK, and even received special praise from health secretary Matt Hancock.
“I feel proud to receive the milestone jab,” she told the Gazette. “I received my first vaccination at Basingstoke Fire Station. So when it was time for the second jab, I chose The Hampshire Court Hotel. “I feel really happy.”

He said the four weeks Ali was in hospital was extremely difficult for him. “I could not be with her,” he told the Gazette. “When Ali went in first, they thought she might have had Covid. So they put her in an isolation ward. Then they moved her to another ward when they found she didn’t have Covid.
