High Sheriff of Hampshire Phillip Sykes given Covid jab

THE High Sheriff of Hampshire visited The Hampshire Court Hotel this morning to receive his second Covid vaccine. Phillip Sykes was given a warm welcome by staff and volunteers when he arrived in his formal attire to be given a dose of the Pfizer jab. The 66-year-old, who lives in Steventon, was met by his wife Caroline who is a GP at Camrose, Gillies, and Hackwood Partnership in Basingstoke, and who has been assisting with the vaccine rollout in the town. However, it was Ken Taylor who administered the vaccine for the Sheriff.  Ken received more than 40 hours’ training to help with the vaccine rollout, having previously worked in finance for the NHS.

New High Sheriff of Cumbria named A notable county businessman has been named as this year’s High Sheriff of Cumbria. David Beeby was appointed to the ceremonial role at a virtual declaration ceremony held on March 31 and succeeds Julie Barton. David was born and brought up in Nottinghamshire where his family has farmed for more than 150 years. He qualified as a chartered accountant before moving into industry. In 1987 he and his family relocated to Cumbria when he was offered the role to run what was then called Smith Brothers in Whitehaven. From 2004, until he retired in 2015, David was chief executive of the Innovia Group based in Wigton.
