Mackay Regional Council is considering a request to rename the northern section of beach south of Mackay to honour those who have served the country.
The section covers the reserve frontage to Hay Point’s Half Tide Beach and extends from the entrance off Highwater Islet Drive to the entrance off McCarthy Street, south of Chain Lane.
If it is approved, the section will be renamed Half Tide Memorial Beach Park. The Mackay Regional Council is considering a request to rename part of Grendon Park to Half Tide Memorial Park. Picture: Mackay Regional Council
The area has traditionally been the location of many community-hosted wartime remembrance events including an annual Anzac Day Dawn Service and has a landmark cenotaph of cultural significance.
