What happened. Reporter here in the woods of northern Frederick County there are beautiful views. Theres also a lot of bears. One 63yearold woman found this out firsthand last night. We pulled up and it was quite a presence. Reporter mark was out to dinner with the family last night. When we got home, he found out his motherinlaw had been attacked by a bear right there in the driveway. There are bears up here. The kids are a little freaked out. Afternoon 9 30. 63yearold Karen Osborne heard barking and went to check it out. She got face to face between a mother black bear and her cubs. She is recovering after stitches. The bear was found and shot. Killing the bear was something that just had to happen. Bears are opportunistic. Bird feed will often eat it. A bear that has an interaction with a human being where it attacks the human, there is a higher probably it will be occurred again. The bears are about 70 pounds. They are large enough to fend for bear population in that part of maryla

Del Mar Kiwanis Club hosts Kiwanis Division 37 Toys for Tots project Nancy Wasco, Steve Gardella , Gina Roberts, four United States Marines from the local reserve unit. (Courtesy) The Del Mar Kiwanis Club hosted the December Kiwanis Division 37 project. It was a club-wide project which involved members from every club, Key clubs and the United States Marines. The project involved the collection of toys for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program which collects new, unwrapped toys which are then distributed to the less fortunate children of the area. Over 300 toys were collected on Dec. 5. A big thanks to the Escondido American Legion Post #149 for providing the “Drop Off Area” and Chef Dave Geary for cooking the hot dogs. All donations and food services were provided with careful attention to COVID protocol.
