Big US spending bill includes gift for Tibetans and the Dalai Lama

New Delhi and Beijing The political head of Tibetans in exile on Tuesday welcomed legislation passed by the United States Congress that reaffirms the rights of Tibetans to choose a successor to their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, a move that infuriated China. The legislation calls for the establishment of a U.S. consulate in Tibet’s main city of Lhasa, the absolute right of Tibetans to choose a successor to the Dalai Lama, and the preservation of Tibet’s environment. The measure was tacked onto the year-end spending bill approved by both chambers of Congress on Monday, which also included the nearly-$900 billion COVID-19 relief package in its $2.3 trillion of spending authorization.

about it and improve it. but they got rid of hearings in the republican congress. for the most part, we were voting on bills, constitutional l amendments like the balanced budget amendment that never had a hearing before, so i pushed very strongly and i m proud to say it s in the rules package for a provision saying that no bills will go through the rules committee to the floor unless they ve had a hearing first. i mean, it s a pretty basic thing. but i m excited that we re actually going to be involved in real legislative process instead of just mobilizing everybody into partisan camps. yes. spoken like a true legislator. the thing you re most excited for is hearings which you have the right job if that s the case. i ll go in on the rules committee. i can t tell you how excited i am about that. congressman jamie raskin, thank you very much. my pleasure. mitt romney returns to his old position on donald trump as he enters the senate. not that old one. the other old, old one.
