Yesterday was gorgeous, compared to the COLD temps we had about a week ago, 40 felt good. To celebrate the nice weather, I stopped off in Northfield on my way home to take in a walk downtown. As I was walking along Water Street, I noticed an empty lot, and in that empty lot was an entrance to the west-wide of the Cannon Riverwalk. If you didn t know that it was there, you d just walk right by it.
The empty lot that houses an entrance to the Riverwalk used to be a building that last housed Jerry s Hair Shop and Old Stuff Shop - Antiques. That building was torn down, but what a difference not having it there makes when you look at it.

Image: Google Maps A BARBER was so engrossed in conversation while watching the flooding hit Northwich that he forgot he had locked an Environment Agency officer in his salon. Paul Johnson – who run’s Johnson’s Gentleman’s Hair Salon, or ‘Johnno’s’ as it’s more commonly known – was chatting with mate Tim Shaw from Northwich Carpets and Laminates before the pair decided to go for coffee on Thursday. They asked an Environment Agency officer working on the floods outside if he wanted a drink, but he instead asked to use Paul’s bathroom.
A HAIRDRESSER volunteered to help as 1,000 elderly residents received their second Pfizer Covid jab. Suzanne McKevitt, who is on furlough from The Hair Shop in Northwich, acted as a marshal as GPs administered the vaccination at Dene Drive Primary Care Centre in Winsford. The 49-year-old joined a team of 14 volunteers to look after residents aged over 80 as they attended the clinic. I ended up in the marquee tent where everyone had to wait for 15 minutes after they had the vaccine, said Suzanne, who lives in Winsford. I m a people s person so I absolutely loved it. It was brilliant. There was a great sense of camaraderie.

As I sat down to write the 2020 Year in Review, I thought: I don t want to relive this year, nor should anyone else. But tradition dictates an annual recap, which if left unwritten, would end my positive relationship with CVN bookkeeper Jane Pascoe. Plus, the newspaper is a weekly black hole of white space that must be filled. So here it goes:
A January 2020 blizzard that brought 50 inches of snow in two days prompted then-borough manager Debra Schnabel to declare a public safety emergency. She told the CVN she hoped the public would hunker down while public works crews cleared roads. The term would soon reappear in a different context two months after the severe weather event that, in hindsight, seems miniscule.
