put him on two years supervised probation, demanded that he do 400 hours of community service and pay $5,000 to the victim s fund. this came after about an hour presentation by arenas defense attorney and even arenas himself, standing in front of a judge saying i m very sorry all this happened. every day i wake up and i wish it didn t. he said by lying about what happened, he was out to protect his family, his teammates. he said he would rather keep a friend and a teammate and lose everything else. it was an emotional day for gilbert arenas here in this courthouse. again, a judge sentencing him to 30 days at a halfway house, putting a suspended 18-month prison sentence, two years supervised probation, 400 hours of community service, and a $5,000 fine to the victim s fund. now this comes after the prosecution had asked the judge to sentence arenas to jail for three months as a result of this gun incident last year at the verizon center. we re here gathering reaction. i ll be
told the judge he used humor to diffuse the situations saying peop thought of him not being remorseful, he saw 14 to 15 members able to last for perhaps the last time and. the took that into consideration saying he was basing that on the fact he was remorseful and though he acted immature and in a stupid way, he didn t intend violence. the family was not in court and we caught up with his fiance who had this to say after the sentencing. we re excited and happy. thank you. reporter: all right, brief comments there from laura who was not in the courtroom. the defense attorney said that gilbert arenas wanted to spear his family spare his family from the proceedings, if you will. we underattend he had five days to report to where he will be placed in a halfway house, somewhere here in d.c. and he must pay $5,000 to victims of violent crime fund and in a nut shell, he walks out a free man having to do 30 days in a halfway house and by all accounts is a very, very big break
