power. in atmore, alabama, six people were injured after tornadoes ripped through escambia county. where is this line of storms headed? still moving. it s the same system that caused a lot of damage across several states yesterday. it is still progressing off to the east. let s look. yesterday, in the last 24 hours, we had four tornado reports, five hail reports, and over 25 different damaging wind reports. again, it stretched from indiana down towards florida. that line is going to continue to shift off to the east, but the threats remain the same. from new york down to florida, we still have the potential for damaging winds, some large hail that could reach golf ball size or larger and even some isolated tornadoes. here s a look at the timing. down across florida, georgia and the carolinas, that threat is ongoing this morning. really for much of the northeast, however, that ramps up as we go into the afternoon and especially the evening and overnight hours. please make sure you hav
nichols joins us straight ahead. first bill karins has a check of the morning s forecast after days of severe weather across the country. it s going to be another dangerous day in the northeast, especially later this evening at the evening commute. let s recap yesterday, 14 days in a row with tornadoes and a lot of those have been tornado outbreaks. this one was in canton, texas, and that s a stove pipe tornado right there. thankfully we didn t have any fatalities. it was a scary scene, though, this was not too far to the northeast of the downtown dallas area. so let s get into the maps and this is a really just been an incredible may. this shows you all the tornado reports this may. we ve only had three days this month without tornadoes being reported. a lot of it has been right in tornado alley and a bunch up through the ohio valley. yesterday, by the way, we had 24 tornado reports, a bunch in iowa and those are the strong ones that were there outside of the dallas area. today se
powerful and devastating storms. bill? yeah, we re going to do it again today. we have 84 million people at risk, including the northeast and middle of the country. last night, it was scary. we had an hour s worth of this huge tornado in kansas on the ground. you could see it was inside the range. a helicopter pilot said it was a mile wide, barely missing the university of kentucky. town s destroyed. houses off their foundation. you can see, nothing to rebuild there. you have to start from scratch. amazingly, only injuries, no fatalities. pennsylvania was hit hard, too. look at this. we re looking straight up into the air at a tornado. that s debris that had actually been picked up near morgantown. we had hail reports, too, in pennsylvania. at one point last night, new york city, staten island was under a tornado warning. large hail reported there. let s get into what we re going to deal with today. we still have a chance of flash flooding.
