thank you for that fun fact. great to see you. to serious news. threat of severe thunderstorms looms in the battered south and southern plains. we have aerial video captured by koco. it shows a funnel cloud there about to form. that is forming. that is 75 miles outside of oklahoma city. where is the severe weather heading? meteorologist chad myers has the forecast. slightly farther east. st. louis to nashville into parts of mississippi and alabama. that is where it is now. we had almost 60 reports of hail. if you want to get entertained, go to twitter and look at the hail reports. not entertained under one of those. a major hail event for oklahoma and texas. wind and hail from nashville to memphis. not severe weather, but severe flying weather with delays in the northeast with the rain
potential for a tornado north of new orleans. whenever you see these red boxes that is a tornado warning. that s when you need to seek shelter immediately. we are seeing a good hook on that cell. a hook echo which gives us an indication there to be a tornado on the ground. a new warning popped up southeastern montgomery. now we are seeing severe weather shifting into alabama. this one hasn t been spotted yet and it may be rain wrapped, hard to see and even more dangerous. severe thunderstorms extending it was mobile, alabama and inching into the florida panhandle. this severe threat continues for the next several hours, even into the evening as these storms are march pg east. the tornado watch may be extended even later because the storps are moving slower than anticipated of these are all the storm reports so far today. this cluster of tornado reports in southeastern louisiana does include the one in east new orleans. again, that was 12:25 eastern standard time. again, we are seeing t
headed right now? still very active situation. we re tracking these storms and the a tornado warning remains in effect for the new orleans area. we have two tornado warnings, those red polygones in effect. they are for radar-indicated trrns. they haven t been spotted on the ground. the potential for more tornadoes right now in basically the same area as where we ve seen the storms already this afternoon, just east of new orleans now and also across southern southeastern louisiana and a very active line of storms now pushing into portions of mississippi and eventually the alabama gulf coast. this is all tracking towards the east over the next several hours. and the entire pink box here, that s our tornado watch. the potential for more tornadoes to form. again, most of the activity we re seeing is shift east of new orleans over the next couple of hours. i want to show you the reports we ve seen already. all of these red circles are tornado reports that we ve seen throughout the day.
hail reports, damaging hail in st. louis, much of missouri dealing with strong thunderstorms that produce large, damaging hail. in fact, look at the images. we saw some it in the video. about $50 billion in insurance claims have gone out from hailstorms since 2000. nebraska, texas and kansas are the top three for hail damage in the u.s. but in missouri, this was the scene with strong thunderstorms, flash flooding, as well. these sort of storms not going anywhere the next couple of days for the state of missouri and areas in its vicinity. here s the perspective as far as what we saw on wednesday. nine reports of tornadoes. one within 15 miles of the city of wichita. another one about 70 miles south of st. louis. so certainly got close to an area with a high population density. think of the atmosphere as a
geno and tiger. this early in the morning. a shocking development on way too early. good morning to you, amy. unfortunately, today we re going to be dealing with severe weather out there today, even tornadoes. we ve had some bad storms the last couple days. st. louis has seen flooding, a lot of hail reports. the worst weather this morning, the kind of weather sending the dog scurrying underneath the bed, peoria and bloomington, illinois. large hail and damaging winds possible with those storms. and as we continue through the day today, we have a large area of the country that s under a slight risk an enhanced risk of severe storms. everywhere in that orange coloring, including wichita, oklahoma city, joplin springfield area tulsa, and even including st. louis late tonight has a chance of really bad, severe weather, including isolated tornadoes. the timing of it looks like to be the peak between about 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. that s a radar image at 7:00 p.m. notice that s not a large
