Making things worse for Boro, the order has put a stay on the appointment of the nominated members, they will not be able to vote during the floor test and cannot participate in the election of the Chief Executive Member. The Court has barred the Council from taking any policy decision.

GUWAHATI: A day after the Gauhati High Court ordered “status quo” on the formation of the new executive council of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) after hearing a challenge petition filed by former chief executive member (CEM) and BPF leader Hagrama Mohilary, the party on Saturday announced that it has decided to sit in the opposition. The court will be hearing the matter again on December 22, but BPF general secretary, Prabin Boro, said, “BPF has decided that it will sit in the opposition and will take part in the council as an active opposition in the greater interest of the people of Bodoland Territorial Region.”

Express News Service GUWAHATI: Just days after a BJP-led coalition had grabbed power in Assam’s autonomous Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), the Gauhati High Court issued an order asking the council to maintain “status quo” on its administrative works. The order, passed by the single-judge bench of Justice Suman Shyam on Friday, comes at a time when the newly-elected council members are yet to begin discharging duties. The next hearing on the case has been fixed for December 22. Earlier, former BTC chief, Hagrama Mohilary, who is also the president of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and some of his party colleagues had filed a writ petition in the court challenging the constitutional validity of the appointment of the council’s Chief Executive Member (CEM) and other members.
