KARACHI: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Saturday staged sit-ins across the city as part of its campaign for civic and municipal rights of Karachi, fresh population census in the metropolis and an empowered local government system in the urban centre of Sindh.
Party workers, including women and children, at some places staged sit-ins and vowed to continue their struggle till the achievement of the desired results.
The party claimed that it had staged sit-ins at more than 50 points in the city to urge the government to initiate a fresh population census, set up an autonomous city government, annul the job quota system and hold LG polls forthwith.

KARACHI: Industrialists on Wednesday rejected the government plan of gas supply discontinuation to captive power plants (CPPs) for general industry from Feb 1 and export-oriented sectors from March 1 calling it an anti-economy move and asking political parties to play their role in saving the country’s exports.
Speaking at a press conference at the Jamaat-i-Islami’s Idara Noor-i-Haq headquarters, JI leader Hafiz Naeemur Rahman and industrialists and leaders of the SITE, Korangi, North Karachi, F. B Area and SITE-Superhighway associations sought immediate response from the federal government over their “anti-Karachi and anti-industry” move.
