Covid-19 in East Lothian: cases rise for twelfth day in a row

January 21 coronavirus figures: East Lothian s death toll at its highest since last spring

THE number of positive cases of coronavirus in East Lothian has stayed the same over the past 24 hours but the county’s death rate has been steadily increasing over the past few months. The latest data from Public Health Scotland shows that between January 12 and 18, the number of positive cases of Covid-19 in the county remained at 132 and the seven-day positive rate at 123.3. However, two further deaths from the virus were recorded on Saturday, bringing the total for the year to six. The last time two deaths were recorded on one day was December 21; before then it was May 13. The is the highest monthly death toll in East Lothian since the first wave of the pandemic last spring.

January 12 coronavirus update: East Lothian s figures continuing to fall

AS THE number of people in hospital and intensive care continues to rise across Scotland, and the number of deaths among those who have previously tested positive passes 5,000, the number of positive cases in East Lothian continues to fall and remains in the five lowest in Scotland. Today (Tuesday), for the period between January 3 and 9, there were 142 positive cases recorded and the seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people was sitting at 132.6. This is fewer than the 157 cases and seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 146.6 reported yesterday (Monday). This decrease means that the county’s figures remain the lowest in the Lothian health board area and the fifth lowest in Scotland.
