THERE might have been a rise in East Lothian’s coronavirus figures today (Thursday) but they remain the sixth lowest Scotland and the county is one of only seven local authorities in Scotland with a seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population of below 200. The most recent data from Public Health Scotland shows that between December 29 and January 4, 161 cases were recorded in East Lothian and the seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population was sitting at 150.3. This is slightly higher than the 155 cases and seven-day rate of 144.7 reported yesterday (Wednesday). However, they remain the lowest in the Lothian healthboard area. By comparison, Edinburgh’s seven-day positive rate is sitting at 237.2, Midlothian’s at 209.8 and West Lothian’s at 179.1.
THE latest data from Public Health Scotland shows that the number of coronavirus cases in East Lothian is starting to decrease. Today’s update is the first in four days; due to Christmas and the bank holiday on Monday, there have been no figures published apart from the number of confirmed cases in Scotland overall. Between December 15 and 21, East Lothian recorded 175 cases and had a seven-day positive rate of 163.4. The week before Christmas Day (December 18-24), this had decreased to 139 cases and a seven-day rate of 129.8. In the figures released today (Tuesday), covering the period between December 20 and 26, East Lothian recorded 120 positive cases and had a seven-day positive rate of 112.1.
THE picture is worsening in East Lothian as the latest coronavirus figures show an increase once again, with the county’s seven-day positive rate per 100,000 of the population remaining the second highest in Scotland. The latest figures published by Public Health Scotland show today (Tuesday) that for the period between December 13 and 19, 193 cases were recorded with the seven-day rate sitting at 180.2. This is an increase once again compared to the figures released yesterday.

Today (Monday) between December 12-18 this increased to 185 cases, 179 cases were reported yesterday (between December 11-17). The seven-day Covid-19 positive rate per 100,000 population was (between Dec 5-11) 126.1 – now (Dec 12-18) it stands at 172.8.
